Meals
are prepared and delivered to homebound, frail elderly people who can no
longer prepare nutritious, well-balanced meals, and who have no one to assist
them and are in an at-risk situation. Also, liquid nutrition is available with
a physician’s prescription. Often referred to generically as "Meals on
Wheels." The community can specifically support this program financially
by contributing to the Sharing Our Daily Bread campaign.
Given
the rural, mountainous geography, meals are delivered in a variety of ways.
Those living in the most remote areas receive a two weeks supply of frozen
dinners and are equipped with the means to heat the dinner themselves if that
is needed. Those living in towns receive a hot delivered meal five days per
week.
Close
to 900 older persons in MEOC's service area receive home-delivered meals
yearly.
