Job Announcement - Mountain Empire Older Citizens, Inc.
Executive Director's Position

Mountain Empire Older Citizen's, Inc (MEOC) is actively recruiting for the top leadership position of Executive Director to assume full responsibility in this role October 1, 2012 and to train under retiring Executive Director effective July 1, 2012.  MEOC, a 501 C-3 private non-profit corporation, has served the Virginia counties of Lee, Wise, Scott and the City of Norton since 1974 and presently serves as the region's area agency on aging, public transit entity, provider of coordinated health and human services transportation, the Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Virginia, Mountain Empire Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), and the Mountain Laurel Cancer Resource and Support Center.

MEOC presently employs 315 employees with an annual operating budget of $12.5 million.  MEOC is mutiply funded with 75 different funding streams from a variety of federal, state, local, foundation and private sectors.

The Executive Director directs the MEOC's strong management team in delivering 40 different programs and services to persons of all ages.  MEOC's mission is to prevent unnecessary institutionalization and to enable persons in remaining independent in their own homes in their own communities.  MEOC is further committed to the prevention, intervention and treatment of abuse of both the young and the old.  For more information on MEOC's mission and its services, visit its website at www.meoc.org.

MEOC is recruiting a person committed to MEOC's mission and to the people of southwest Virginia who is dedicated to working in partnership with national, state and local entities sharing compatible missions, goals and values.  Successful applicants must have extensive prior experience in working in health and human services in a rural area, in developing and administering large budgets, in supervising and training management staff, in organizing and implementing community fundraising campaigns, in writing and managing grants and in developing and operating community based programs.  The position calls for a person committed to advocacy for those served by MEOC, for rural persons and for the Appalachian region.  Strong written and oral communication skills and public relations skills are critical.  Previous experience in working with a Board of Directors and community Advisory Councils is a plus.

The position requires an enthusiastic, flexible, mission driven person who can provide the vision needed to keep a presently sound organization on a creative path responsive to area needs.  Staying attuned to local people and issues and developing appropriate programmatic responses is central to the position.  Must be able to partner effectively with area health and human services organizations, elected officials, advocacy organizations, older persons and their families, community organizations, the faith community, the business community and ecomonic development efforts among many others.

College degree required.  Additional degrees and/or documented relevant training strengthen an application.  Salary is negotiable.  The Executive Director works at the direction of the Board of Directors whose responsibilities include hiring this position.  MEOC is an EEOC employer.

Mountain Laurel Cancer Support and Resource Center  
 

The Mountain Laurel Cancer Support and Resource Center is in need of volunteers to assist in managing the Center's activities.  Volunteer needs include assisting cancer patients and their families locate cancer related health information, gathering materials for the organization's quarterly meetings, taking referrals for assistance, coordinating requests for assistance with MEOC programs and other community resources, assisting in planning and staging community fundraisers and other responsibilities as necessary.  If you enjoy helping others and are interested in volunteering in a pleasant and fulfilling environment, please contact Leigh Ann Bolinsky at 523-4202, or email her at lkennedy@meoc.org.

Public Transit Bus Drivers

20 - 40 Hours per Week - Start $7.25/Hr.   $7.75/Hr. at Six Months.  $8.00/Hr. at 12 Months, with Satisfactory Performance.  Must obtain CDL by 12th month for that raise.

If you have a good driving record and enjoy working with the public, Mountain Empire Transit wants you! No experience necessary - No CDL required to start... We provide all required training at no cost.  Mountain Empire Transit  has temporary, seasonal and full-time positions available.  We offer flexible hours, perfect for retirees and substitute school bus drivers.  Compliance with drug and alcohol testing program and DOT physical required.
