Mountain Empire Older Citizens Inc (MEOC) was organized in 1974 and is designated as the area agency on aging and public transit provider for Wise, Lee and Scott counties and city of Norton in the southwestern tip of Virginia in the mountains of Central Appalachia. In addition, MEOC directs Healthy Families For Southwest Virginia, The Mountain Laurel Cancer Resource and Support Center, and The Southwest Virginia Children’s Advocacy Center.  MEOC also provides management services to The Junction Center For Independent Living Services.

Read our MEOC Mission Statement HERE.

MEOC offerings are guided by the old African proverb that states:  “Let us take care of the children, for they have a long way to go. Let us take care of the elders, for they have come a long way. Let us take care of those in between, for they are doing the work."

Age and eligibility guidelines for MEOC's programs and services differ according to funding source, level of functioning, and available resources.

Contact MEOC for specific information, to make a referral, or to volunteer. MEOC is very dependent on the valuable contributions of volunteers of all ages.
